Carpenter Center Building

The Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts is the only building in North America designed by the Swiss-French architect, urban planner, visual artist, and writer, Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887–1965). Known as Le Corbusier, he is one of the most influential modern architects and urban planners. Planned and built between 1958–1963 for the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) at Harvard, today, the Carpenter Center also houses the Harvard Film Archive, and CCVA Program of exhibitions, lectures, and events.

Join us for a guided tour of our historic building. As you take a promenade architecturale (Le Corbusier’s expression for a visitors’s pathway through built space) learn about Carpenter Center’s architecture, history, and current program. 

The tour will cover only the public spaces as classrooms and studios are closed to the public, and will highlight much of the building’s remarkable exterior and interior features. Tours are free and open to the public, and led by students.
