Poet Layli Long Soldier reads pieces from WHEREAS, presents visuals, and discusses new works. Long Soldier will specifically discuss process, collaboration and working with the voices of community; that is, writing beyond the alone.

Layli Long Soldier holds a B.F.A. from the Institute of American Indian Arts and an M.F.A. from Bard College. She has served as a contributing editor of Drunken Boat. Her poems have appeared in The American PoetThe American ReaderThe Kenyon Review Online, and other publications. She is the recipient of the 2015 NACF National Artist Fellowship, a 2015 Lannan Literary Fellowship, and a 2016 Whiting Award. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was a finalist for the 2017 National Book Award, and is currently a finalist for the 2018 PEN America/Jean Stein Book Award, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and a National Book Critics Circle Award.
